I love Father Bill's writing style and how down to earth it is. It is easily accessible for groups of "cradle Catholics" who have been Catholic, and newer Catholics or those who are questioning their faith. It also is good for both young and old as Father Bill's authenticity is shown throughout. A highly recommended read for those who enjoy Scripture Scholarship.

How many of us have the education and years of experience to truly understand the Bible? Fr. Burton is one of the most studied biblical scholars out there. And instead of keeping this knowledge to himself, he chose to write a book to share his knowledge with all of us. What a gift!Abba Isn't Daddy is filled with insights that the lay person would never otherwise know. In the first section, it provides needed context - historical, political, geographic, etc. - about the times in which the Bible was written. Then, in the second part, it applies that context to particular biblical stories and concepts - in order to help us understand the true meaning of what the Bible is trying to tell us. This combination of the Bible, in context, gives us a deeper and truer understanding of the Word than we've ever had before. Thank you, Fr. Burton, for sharing your knowledge with all of us.

In his delightfully written book, Fr. Burton's challenges the reader to reassess some common New Testament linguistic categories in their original Greek and in their social environment for deeper understanding of the meaning intended by the biblical author. He is most plausible in treating his material, pertinent in his message, and perky in his down-to-earth style. Like the excellent teacher and lecturer he is, Fr. Bill unveils hidden treasures behind some significant material in the Bible and shines new light on familiar biblical word fields. One will not fall asleep reading this book but turn the page quickly to find oneself surprisingly saying: "I didn't know that!" As one who has taught New Testament at three graduate theological schools, I recommend Fr. Father Bill is an engaging writer and teacher. He provides clarity about words and situations in the Scriptures while keeping the reader fully connected to what he is saying. There are no boring or sleepy minutes in this book. His charm and genuine joy in teaching about Scripture pour out as he writes. Father includes personal stories to which the reader may relate to ensure his point is made. As all great teachers do, Father Bill takes the reader from what is known about a passage to what is unknown, expanding the reader's knowledge along the wat. Just a great read!
