This is just the book I've been looking for. I'm a amateur botanist of sorts, interested in trees and their lineages, but could never find a book that went very far past the genus and family, with practically nothing on the overall shifts in cladistics. This book has only a small amount on each genus or family, but it's more than I'm used to, and the explanatory chapters are fine. (Yes, tough reading, but this is current botany!)

This book is the epitimy of Phylogenetic information for anyone interested in Botany. I got this for a University Plant Taxonomy class, but I use it all the time for reference. A lovely CD accompanies this book and is and additional assistance to study. I wouldn't be without this book. It also arrived in perfect condition, packed really nice, and FAST, too. This book is very clinical, but doesn't give a full explanation of many mechanisms of development. I did enjoy the pictures of the disorders.

Many courses in science have continued a seventh grade open writing assignment. Although my father and grandfather did be medical surgeons I could not finish off the the preprequisites by 22 years of age inclusive of scheduling for the rest of the studies. 1651 was a calendar year for landowners and epigeneticists. Thank you.

This is an excellent embryology text IF you already have some background in medical anatomy, morphology, or embryology. Otherwise I reccomend "Before we are born" by the same authors. Same information but less dense and more easily read by a lay audience. The Developing Human is a very dense text and it has excellent clinical correlations in each chapter. This is a book intended for medical or graduate students, so be pack your lunch before sitting down to go through a chapter. I like the illustrations, but some of them (the cross sections) will require a bit of mental gymnastics before they become clear - but once you get it, they are a very helpful way to understand how the 3D structures are being represented. The new edition has expanded some chapters, simplified SOME of the concepts, and most importantly, it keeps current with new developments in the field and nomenclature. I teach medical gross anatomy, embryology, and musculoskeletal system courses to first year medical students.

This book would be great for anyone going into pediatric or neo-natal medicine. Anyone else should look elsewhere for a more clearly written treatment of this subject. The book contains a lot of information and I found the drawings very useful. However, the authors use of unnecessary medical terminology makes for slow reading - and I have a BS in Biology! If you buy this book, be warned... you WILL need an anatomy book as well to understand what structures are being discussed. A medical terminology dictionary may come in handy as well. For information content, I give the book a 4 - I found several congenital conditions were missing or only briefly mentioned. For writing style, I give it a 2 for the reasons discussed above.

Moore and Persaud have a great book in the Sixth Edition. I think the 7th edition was put together by a mad computer scientist who was unable to coordinate text with graphics, and mixed up overlays between illustrations. With that said, I would purchase and use the sixth edition for test prep and review. It is a standard, excellent text, and the first seven chapters give a easily readable blow by blow of the developing human. Toss the 7th Edition; use it to warm your hands by the fire as you go back to the sixth edition and learn something. My .02.

I am a medical student at Texas A&M USHSC COM. This text is one of the worst I have ever owned. It is wrought with errors. There are numerous errors in the text. The diagrams are confusing and many are actually wrong. The wordy nature of the book is also a problem for most medical students, as the yield appears to be low (unlike Moore's: Clinically Oriented Anatomy). This text is listed as a required text at many medical schools, however, it should not be. Instead, I suggest *Langman's Medical Embryology. This is a much better choice for all interested in a clear and correct understanding of clinical embryology.

I have discussed this book in a comparative review of three human embryology texts:Moore & Persaud, The Developing HumanLarsen, Essentials of Human EmbryologySadler, Langman's Medical EmbryologyThis review can be found on the Amazon.com site under Sadler (ISBN 0-683-30650-2). In brief, I found Sadler to be the clearest and most useful of these three books, and Moore & Persaud to be the richest in clinical content but otherwise not as good as the other two.

I think I was expecting "more" from this book as far as size or images, based on the price, which seems quite high for a slim volume about the size of a Harlequin Romance. This is not an indictment of the author, but more of the publisher. This is a book written mainly for children, upper elementary or middle school grades. Warning: "The N Word" is included, as a quotation as historical fact, which does not bother me in the context, but parents/teachers may want to be prepared.The story of Willie O'Ree, "the Jackie Robinson of professional hockey" is an important story. O'Ree is much less well-known than Robinson, but no less important in the boundaries broken. Hockey remains probably the least diverse of professional sports in North America. O'Ree's accomplishment as the first person of African decent to break the color barrier cracked a door, but unfortunately it took several years after O'Ree's career ended for others of African or Native decent to join the ranks of professional hockey players.

The book description did not indicate that the book was a children's book. The writing was very juvenile. It covered the professional life of Willie O'Ree but I was anticipating a more adult focused biography.

Book does no mention of Don McKenney nor the rest of Valiant Boston Bruins of the Late 1950s!

I had to do a research project on him, and this book saved me. Without this book I wouldn't have been able to complete my project.

My son uses this over and his younger sisters enjoy it too. The projects are by level, so you can do owls out of toilet paper rolls with your little ones but make something awesome with the older ones.Tip: Give this with some duct tape.

There are some really great projects in this book. However, I was hoping for something elementary students could do with minimum adult assistance, but these projects are fairly intricate and require a lot of messy materials. I wish the author had discussed how hard cardboard is to cut, even for adults. These projects would work better for parents at home than at school in 30 minute blocks.

My crafty 6 year old son asked for Cardboard for Christmas. I saw this book at the library and quickly skimmed thru it. I knew it was the perfect gift. It arrived yesterday and I LOVE IT! The pictures are vibrant. The directions are thorough and easy enough for children. I can't wait for him to open it start creating.

My kids are almost six. The projects is this book are beautiful, but require way more patience and attention span than a younger kid has. These are awesome projects. A younger kid would need lots of help and IMO would get bored, so then itâ€™s a parent project. Still, definitely worth buying. Iâ€™m going to put it on the self for now and wait a few years. No regrets.

My grandson really enjoyed going through this book. We are saving cardboard and canâ€™t wait to start

It's has a lot of imaginative projects with instructions that are pretty easy to follow.

We purchased this for our granddaughter who loves it and has asked for more. We intend to comply to her wishes.

Michelle Perro, MD, is a veteran pediatrician with over thirty-five years of experience in acute and integrative medicine. More than ten years ago, Dr. Perro transformed her clinical practice to include pesticide and health advocacy. She has both directed and worked as attending physician from New Yorkâ€™s Metropolitan Hospital to UCSF Benioff Childrenâ€™s Hospital Oakland. Dr. Perro has managed her own business, Down to Earth Pediatrics, a holistic urgent care clinic for children. For the past four years, she has been an integrative physician at the Institute for Health and Healing, part of Sutter Pacific Medical Center. ^ Vincanne Adams, PhD, is a professor and vice-chair of Medical Anthropology, in the Department of Anthropology, History, and Social Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Perro and Dr. Adams provide a clear, compelling and very readable discussion of what's making too many of our children sick. They prescribe a simple, radical remedy: a food-focused approach to treatment. As Perro and Adams describe why our children's bodies (and our own) stagger and stumble under the toxic load in the genetically modified and pesticide-laced food we put on the table, they stress the benefits of organic food and the value of eliminating indigestible and/or harmful staples of the American diet. This is an important book that explores the far-reaching consequences of how our food is produced and helps to explain the frightening rise in gastrointestinal, autoimmune, and psychiatric illnesses among American children. Its well-researched arguments are backed by science and rendered accessible to the lay reader, enlivened by clinical case studies from pediatrician Perro's practice in northern California. Its spirit is impassioned yet even-handed, ending with a call to activism. Highly recommended reading for parents of young children as well as the general public.

Perro and Adams have written an informative, well-researched and thought-provoking book for parents and health care professionals alike. Itâ€™s easy to read (much to my surprise and delight) and offers some common sense and simple solutions to help make ourselves and our kids healthier (eat organic, non-GMO foods for starters). Cleaning up the industrial food supply in the United States is a monstrous challenge, but as Dr. Perro has repeatedly demonstrated, by adopting a food-focused approach to medicine, we can improve the mental and physical health of our families by making better food choices and cleaning up our kidsâ€™ guts. I gifted this book to all my relatives with young children and I highly recommend it for your family too.

This book has become my "go to" gift for all new parents. It is informative, easy to read, easy to understand and gives concrete steps for parents to take to improve their child's health. I wish I had this information when my own children were small!

This book was eye-opening, and quite honestly, frightening. After cutting gluten and dairy out of my diet, I've lost 20 lbs. I've had chronic knee pain for about 15 years (I'm only 29!) And since I've made these changes in my diet, all of my joint pains have gone away. I also was struggling for 2 years with infertility and had 3 early losses... After seeking help from a specialist who wanted to pump me full of hormones it was a wake up call to get to the root of my problems. Since the diet change I've been able to successfully get pregnant without the help of God only knows what type of drugs, and am well in to my second trimester with a healthy pregnancy. This book is life changing and worth the read!
