This is a good book for ideas and twists on standard bakery items. I don't normally review a recipe book until I have tested a dozen recipes BUT in the case of this book it is very apparent that the recipes were not "sized" or tested.The obvious illustration of this problem is the sponge base for the Tonka Bean, Chocolate and Rasberry dessert, the one for the Matcha, White Chocolate and Cherry Trench and the Opera Cake. All of these recipes stipulate 5 eggs, 185 grams sugar etc. But they are being used for substantially different sized cakes in the finished product. The Opera Cake specifies that this is for two baking pans, whereas the other two imply a single pan which leads to a very thick sponge for an entremet. Laughably the Tonka Bean recipe states it makes four pillows, but the recipe calls for 1 litre of cream and 1 kilogram of chocolate. I used a third of that amount and had mouse for 8 pillow molds plus enough left over for three extra desserts. The same occurs for the Matcha and Cherry mousse; the recipe has 1.3 litres of cream plus 700 grams of chocolate to fill a mold which is 1 litre (minus the size of the cherry!)It raises the question as to whether the recipes were tested after they were written down or whether the professional recipes were reproduced with no thought about the quantity.There are also other places where the recipes require experience/ knowledge to adjust the description in the book.The flavour combinations and ideas are worth five stars, but the adjustments and changes that are necessary to make the recipes efficient mean the loss of a star.

I like the exciting and professional looking pictures and recipes. The author is definitely a very skilled pastry chef. After trying a few recipes, I begin to doubt the accuracy of the given measurements and instructions. I'm a confident home baker, but not a chef, so I may be lacking in some respect. After adjusting the measurements according to a few YouTube videos, the result significantly improved. I hope the author can go through it again to see if everything is correct and really help people who bought the book to recreate these puddings. It is the least he can do to respect the effort people make into making them.

This is truly a beautiful book with great recipes for the pastry artist. Note however that most of the recipes require some previous training in baking and pastry production, i.e. more for the professional rather than the novice. However a few of the recipes could be made by weekend bakers. Regardless, this is a wonderful book, with beautiful photographs, well written, and a must for fans of Japanese sweets and the fusion of western baking with Japanese ingredients.

Love this book straight forward. Simple layout. Great recipes. It is exactly what I wanted and would recommend it to anyone.

If you could only read one book on blood gasses this would have to be the one.This book covers the nitty-gritty about Arterial blood gasses (ABG). As a PhD who performs biomedical research, I have come across "experts" who resort to physiological babble because they dont know what arterial saturation is really all about. You will if you read this book.The book centers around four classic expresssions: (1) partial pressure of co2, (2) pH (3) alveolar gas equation, and (4) o2 content. From these four expressions, and a little knowledge of clinical medicine, you will understand just about everything you need to know about ABG. Dont let the equations scare you off; you know them already.The book is simple to read, and has example problems. The real-world examples/problems really help in applying the knowledge, which I found to be quite useful. The author does not go into deep biochemical details. But if you need a good solid introduction to blood chemistry, or have to review how to read an ABG report this is a great book.

This is probably the most important book you should get for ABG interpretation. It is very well written and easy to understand. The working examples are the best part of this book. In particularly, the last two chapters contains many excellent clinical examples. These examples are invaluable for anyone who wish to better care for their patients with respiratory problems. To gain a greater understanding of physiology of respiratory illnesses, you often need to work in ICU for 1-2 years. By working through these examples, you will achieve the same in just a few weeks and be as confident as the respiratory fellow who is supposed to know it all. Most textbooks will only give you theoretical stuff. These examples teach you the actual "how to" at bedside. More importantly, you will get a much better understanding of the physiological principles. Everything starts to make sense after you have gone through this book.

Excellent book, easy to follow and understand, stands out among many other books addressing blood gas interpretation, my whole hearted recommendation

I am an RT instructor and I chose this book as a text book for my arterial blood gas analysis class. the students found it very difficult to understand and some of the formulas have been abreviated to the point that a novice will have trouble understanding them. This is a very good review for anyone who already has a general understanding of acid base, blood gas and electrolyte interpretation and can clear up some misconceptions, however, this book is not adequate for someone just learning the basics. My students were very unhappy and I wound up not using the text nearly as much as I had planned.

I was given this book when I rotated through the ICU as a 3rd year medical student. I had gone through other training classes that attempted to teach me how to read a blood gas but I never could get it down right. THEN, I read this one...it put things into the proper perspective and taught me what I needed to know when I was reading a blood gas. I highly recommend it!

With a good editor, this could be a good book.But as is, it covers too many topics, from how to deal with computer viruses (keep your software updated, use an anti-virus program) to warnings about scurvy ('always aim for a balanced diet'). There are pages devoted to wood-boring insects. There's an illustration of a Corgi.Worse, the book is shallow in its investigation of useful options. For emergency winter survival, it's odd to recommend an igloo (slow to make, hard to construct without a snow saw, and tough to complete in poor conditions) but to omit mention of a snow trench (fast, easy, and warm enough to shelter me on many trips), or even a snow-cave, a simple compromise.And the information shared has no filter. A beginner has no way of parsing the laundry-list of knots to prioritize a square knot (essential) over a Killick hitch (easily replaced by more versatile alternatives); there's no mention at all of how to make an improvised harness, despite several sections on emergency climbing and rappelling. In the section in explosions, Wiseman advises ways to safely exit a building before the spread of fire, but then says 'If you are caught in an explosion in a building, then stay there until safe to do so' [sic], without further explanation.Finally, it's unreliable. There are pure factual errors (people cannot survive 12 days without water, even in cool temperatures) and frequent mixing of good and poor advice (crossing a river in a group one behind the other is terrible, exposing each to the full force of the water, while crossing in a line facing downstream, with arms interwoven, is universally recommended).I don't write many reviews, and even fewer poor reviews - why disparage something others enjoyed? But this is meant to be a practical book, and it sets the bar too low. Pare it down and keep the information accurate. At half the length this could be twice as valuable.Here are links to better books on the areas discussed. If you are like me you want to have solid survival and bushcraft knowledge on you when you go hiking. I know some basics but if a real situation happened there is no way I would what to do beyond try to build a fire. The full-size SA Survival Handbook is incredible, but it is a large book and pretty heavy for a day hike pack. To my delight, there is a "pocket guide", or a small guide that will fit nicely into your pack. Sure you can get information on your phone, but phones die, service can be spotty or gone. This is a nice piece of confidence to carry with you!I would certainly recommend​ this book as a daily hiking carry!

There's no question that there's a ton of useful information in this very big book, but there are also commonly-accepted but erroneous myths that the author hasn't personally verified. And you the reader probably can't tell which is which without a scientific background. It's really bad for a survival book to make and perpetuate that sort of mistake.Essentially any time the author talks about magnetism, electricity, static, and their phenomena, he's wrong.One example is the author's instruction to magnetize a ferrous wire by rubbing silk against it in one direction only, so that it can be used as a compass needle. He is obviously confusing electrostatic and electromagnetic phenomena. The author does mention that the effect of silk is weak and that if you rub it with a magnet it will work better, but doesn't seem to realize that the magnetizing effect of silk (and static electricity in general) is non-existent and that if the wire works as a compass at all, it's because it is already slightly magnetized. People who have performed the experiment of magnetizing by rubbing silk say it doesn't work, and that's what physics would predict as well.Yes, I know that many books and thousands of web pages perpetuate the same myth. The reality is that most ferrous objects get magnetized naturally simply by being in the Earth's magnetic field. One experimenter found that 75% of needles he purchased in stores would work as a compass without any effort to magnetize them. But rubbing silk (or hair, or anything else you can expect to produce a static electric field), doesn't change them.Another example is the author's statement that wet matches are dried by placing them in your hair, because of the static electricity in your hair. Static electricity doesn't dry things, your hair absorbs the water or wicks it away.It's almost as if someone with a scientific background told these yarns to poorly-educated survivalists just to play a trick on them.

This book really does a great job of laying out all the options available to student loan borrowers but what I really liked was that it didn’t stop at “just” explaining student loans (though it did do a good job of that!). It went further and talks about how to improve your financial life and dives into some of those more complex questions like should you invest or pay off your student loans? What about an emergency fund? The book also talked about things like money mindset, and how student loan debt could impact relationships and mental health. Overall I highly recommend that anyone who has student loan debt gets this book.

Loved this book! It's not just a book, but it's also a work book with tools to help you get right to it! It also comes with a companion guide and additional tools online, if that's more your jam. I think one of the best things about this book is that it isn't just a blanket remedy for paying off your student loans, it really recognizes that we each have different loans and different financial situations, so our pay off plan will likely been different too.
