About the Author

Lou Rosenfeld is an independent information architecture consultant. He has been instrumental in helping establish the field of information architecture, and in articulating the role and value of librarianship within the field. He teaches tutorials as part of the Nielsen Norman Group User Experience Conference.Peter Morville is president of Semantic Studios, an information architecture, user experience, and findability consultancy. Since 1994, he has advised such clients as AT&T, Harvard, IBM, the Library of Congress, Microsoft, the National Cancer Institute, Vodafone, and the Weather Channel. Peter is best known as a founding father of information architecture, having co-authored the field's best-selling book, Information Architecture for the World Wide Web. It would be interesting hearing how this book is rated by students. This book reminds me of its origins, written by consultants who have learned best practices and would like to share their experience with other practitioners. And that is why I gave it 5 stars. I would not think this book could be used in an introduction to information architecture. Especially after graduating in computer science.This book is much more for practitioners on their first project or wanting to improve their existing methodology with new ideas. I found the book to follow exactly the process we have on my first project. Even anticipating the same questions I asked regarding waterfall versus agile. The whole book betrays the author's as experienced practitioners. And that is a good thing.Initially, I hesitated to purchase the book thinking it would be too focused on e-commerce sites, and I am working on a government intranet site with records management. However, the steps to developing a successful IA were presented in an industry agnostic perspective. Examples were taken from both government and public corporation websites.

I have read about 100 pages and realised that can't finish the book because it is neither interesting nor useful for me.Author argues a lot about what is good web design, how to create better user experience in searching information in web sites. But I don't see a reason to make entire science of it. After 100 pages I haven't found any fresh idea.Epigraphs before each chapter spice up contents at some degree but that is not enough for me.So I have thrown the book into trash bin to free space for more useful technology books.

A great book that provides a clear foundation around the key frameworks and terminology. Worth having on the bookshelf as a reference.

This book is so easy to digest and understand, so much of my MLIS texts are dry and dense. I recommend this book for both amateurs and experts looking to solidify their skills in IA

Great primer on information architecture. The first few chapters will give you the foundation you need.

Pretty great book about information architecture. If you build websites and don't know what information architecture is, I'd recommend reading it.
